PKR Miri Branch Chairman Dr Michael Teo Yu keng said that he supported any move to turn Deepavali into a public holiday in the state. Deepavali holiday fall on Wednesday 26th October 2011.
Dr. Michael Teo Yu Keng
West Malaysia and Sabah have made Deepavali day a public holiday and I don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t be here as well since we are now emphasising on 1Malaysia and celebrating diversity,”
Deepavali should be public holiday in the state most offices and businesses in other part of Malaysia do not operate on that day because it is a public holiday there, so indirectly our operation in Kuching and all over the state will also affect because the are interwined with those in other part of the country.
If we Pakatan Rakyat given a chance to form the government we will look into it, and I personally will bring this issue to our Indian representative in Parliament for their futher action.
There are more or less 2000 Indian registered voters throughout Sarawak .
