PKR Miri Hopes Dr Teo Will Be Fielded By PKR In The Coming General Election

Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Miri branch chairman political secretary Mohd. Zulkhairi
hopes Dr Teo will be fielded by PKR in the coming general election and makes his way to Parliament.
Dr Teo had contested in the 2008 general election in the Sibuti seat against Ahmad Lai Bujang, and in the 2006 state election in Senadin against Datuk Lee Kim Shin, where he lost both times and in the 2010 last state election where he lost by a slim 58-majority votes.
“This time around, we decided to go for Miri parliamentary seat,” said Mohd. Zulkhairi PKR Miri branch chairman political secretary.
Zulkhairi justified his claim on Dr. Teo 12 years in politics, compared to his counterparts in Democratic Action Party (DAP) who were considered ‘new’ in Miri. "We are not aiming too high, and we are keeping our expectations at a realistic level," he said.
Zulkhairi also said between Mdm. Lim Su Kein and Dr. Teo, Mdm Lim lost in Bintulu .
with bigger margin and should continue to serve and build up track record in Bintulu. (Tiong King Sing -23,628 & Lim Su Kien-8,662 with majority 14,966)“The people of Miri already know him very much, and he will have no problem relating to city folks in Miri, despite he lost in the past election Dr. Teo shows never say die attitude” said Zulkhiari.
Another reason is PKR needs to maintain a minimum presence in Chinese-majority urban areas to reflect the party's multi-cultural agenda. Zulkhairi stressed that - while PKR recognises DAP's strength in Chinese-majority urban areas and accepts its continuing prominence in its traditional strongholds - the Chinese-based party should expand its influence into non-Chinese areas. He claimed that the urban sentiment in Sarawak had changed to favour the opposition, and that anyone contesting urban seats under Pakatan Rakyat (PR) alliance was most likely to win.“I hope DAP will respect PKR’s wish in contesting in an urban seat here, and not take up all the urban seats just because they are easy to win,” he added.
“DAP already have two state seat (Piasau and Pujut), so this time around give a chance to PKR,” said Zulkhairi.
“We saw a silver lining in the encouraging response to our activity after last state election. Our PKR Miri and PR supporters will have to work extra hard to try and get our message across to the voters,” he added.
