Dr Michael Teo gets first endorsement from MoCS

MIRI – Dr Michael Teo Yu Keng, a gynaecologist in private practice here, has become the first Pakatan candidate to be endorsed by the Movement For Change, Sarawak (MoCS).

“A MoCS endorsement means a public declaration that Teo is a candidate of quality and substance and that he is worthy to seek elective office and deserves the support of the people,” Siah told a press conference here today.
“It also means that the endorsed candidate will receive ground support from MoCS and its affiliated NGO’s during the election campaign,” he said.
Siah said that MoCS would strongly recommend to the leadership of the party Teo belongs to that the endorsed candidate should be selected to contest as a candidate in the coming state election.
Teo, 62, is Miri PKR chairman. He had previously contested twice in a semi-rural seat in Miri but was not successful.
Before the MoCS endorsement, Siah revealed that Teo was put under the radar screen of the movement’s vetting committee. He ‘passed’ the MoCS scrutiny with flying colours, said Siah.
The MoCS leader said that the movement would only endorse credible and quality candidates either from Pakatan Rakyat or Barisan Nasional.
“We will tell the voters in Sarawak to reject unfit candidates,” Siah said, adding that MoCS currently has a list of 16 names of potential or serving candidates which it will endorse and reveal in due course.
Among the MoCS criteria of a quality candidate are that the candidate should have a vision and ready with plans for his constituency and the state as a whole; ability to serve with innovation and determination; have a positive and constructive relationship with colleagues sharing a same political mission and vision (not a quarrelsome lone ranger); have a high consciousness of ethical responsibilities and be transparent, committed and faithful to his/her publicly declared political platform; possess high moral character; knowledgeable and financially sound.
“We are placing high importance on credible and quality candidates now because we have witnessed only too often how those elected later turned into ‘frogs’ selling themselves to the highest bidder.
“The people of Sarawak deserve good, credible and unselfish politicians to represent them,” Siah added.
Dr Michael Teo, who was also present at the press conference together with William Ng, Miri MoCS Coordinator, expressed his thanks to MoCS for the endorsement. He said he would do his utmost to live up to the people’s expectation should be elected to public office.
“There are so many things I want to do for the people and my home state but I’m powerless to do so now. I need the mandate of the people to fulfill their dreams and aspirations,” Teo said.
