Pakatan Rakyat Miri Chinese New Year Open House 2012
MIRI: The Chinese New Year (CNY) open house should cut across all differences including the political divide in the country.
The Malaysian open house is a time for people of all races, religions, and political beliefs to visit one another in the common celebration of a major festival, said Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Miri branch chairman Dr Michael Teo recently.
“We (Pakatan Rakyat) are inviting local BN (Barisan Nasional) leaders to come to our CNY open house – there’s no reason why we can’t visit one another during festive seasons regardless of our differences.”
Dr Teo and his fellow colleagues in Pakatan Rakyat (PR) had paid a visit to the Miri City Council (MCC)’s open house organised by Miri mayor Lawrence Lai in Miri Civic Centre on Jan 29.
The Pakatan Rakyat well-wishers were led by Pujut assemblyman Fong Pau Teck, and with him were Miri PAS chairman Jofri Jaraiee, and Sarawak PKR Youth secretary Zulhaidah Suboh.
Dr Teo welcomed local BN leaders like Datuk Sri Peter Chin Fah Kui, Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Ahmad Lai Bujang, Ripin Lamat, Rosey Yunus, Lawrence Lai, and Sebastian Ting to visit the PR Miri CNY Open House at his residence at Jalan Tanjung this Saturday between 6.30pm to 11pm.
“I extended the invitation to the BN leaders by email and other means to come join us for dinner at our open house,” said Dr Teo who is expecting to cater to a large crowd of over 2,000 people based on his previous experience of holding CNY open house.
Dr Teo also praised Lai for welcoming the Opposition in the spirit of 1Malaysia as propounded by the Prime Minister during the latter’s open house.
He hoped Lai and other BN leaders would set aside political differences and reciprocate PR’s sincerity in working together for the good of the people.
“After all, like civil servants, we (politicians) are supposed to serve the people and country too,” he added.
There will be buffet dinner, lion dance, oranges, angpows, and lucky draws for visitors during the Pakatan Rakyat open house where PR leaders like Tian Chua, Elizabeth Wong and Wong Ho Leng are expected to be present.
